Frequently Asked Questions
|
Q : Why no remote control? A1 : One of the basic design parameters of this particular model was to keep it very simple, very Spartan; concentrating our efforts on very high performance for dollars spent. For most users the only reason for a remote, in this particular case, would be to control the volume while still seated. We didn't feel that the unit should have to be built around that single feature. A2 : There are remote control systems that don't compromise the sound quality of a unit, but including one here would have raised the price to a point that made us uncomfortable.
Q : Why does the music keep playing for a few seconds after I turn the unit off? A : The power supply capacitors are mounted directly on each amplifier channel. Because they have large reserves, it takes them a few seconds to dissipate power.
Q : Should I leave the unit on all the time or turn it off at night? A : Power usage when not playing is about the same as a 40 watt light bulb. Follow your own conscience. We do feel that the unit sounds better after it has been for a half hour and even better than that after it has been on for a couple of days. Be sure turn it off when you go on vacation.
Q : Can I plug a phono directly into any of the inputs? A : The inputs are line-level only. If you contact us, we can suggest some compatible outboard phono sections.
Q : Why does plugging in a set of headphones silence the speakers? A : The headphone system is connected directly (with some minor buffering and protection circuitry) to the main outputs. Putting a selector into the circuit would have negatively affected performance.
Q : Should I use headphones of a specific impedance? A : The output impedance of the headphone jack is so low, that any headphone with the appropriate plug should work optimally. If you have electrostatic 'phones that use a transformer chassis, connect to the Panache's speaker outputs. |
